a life of patchwork

Lately, I've been trying to use up some of the scraps I have laying around, and it has been soooo much fun! Here are a few of the things I've been working on:

Scraps are from the line "Walk in The Woods"

Patrick & I got a Kindle last year for Christmas from his parents, and it was high time I made my own fun case!

Scraps "Flea Market Fancy"

I've been having so much fun sewing recently, I think it has a lot to do with all the free time I've been having. And maybe, Pinterest...!

Big City Quilt

I am finally making a quilt for our bed, yep-this one is staying on my bed! I'm so excited. I am using this great pattern and using Denyse Schmidt's Flea Market Fancy (My favorite line). It's been hanging on my wall for about a week and I keep peeking in on it every day and pieces are moved frequently-I just need to find the time to actually piece it!

Look at that awesome quilt wall-That was my early Christmas present from my Hubs-he kinda likes me! It is super helpful, especially with a quilt this big (96x96 finished).

Grandma Wiley was a amazing quilter, and I got my little hands on one of her quilt tops that never had a chance to become a quilt-until now. Roberta and I went shopping for backing and batting when she visited, so all that i have to do now is tie the quilt and bind it up! I basted it this afternoon, and hopefully I can get it all hand tied by the end of the month.

A Walk in the Woods Quilt

I'm back in blog land!

Lately I have been sewing for friends, family and my local quilt shop! It's been so much fun.

My most favorite recent quilt I made was back in November for a friend who is having a baby girl any day now :)

I made it using this pattern and this adorable fabric by Aneela Hoey.

Amelia's Quilt

My local quilt shop has asked me to make models for their shop, which is super exciting-I am getting ton's of experience and and learning so much. I am thankful for a great shop so close to home! One of the tops I've made is currently displayed in the front window of the shop!

This quit was way out of my comfort zone for me (color wise), but I LOVE IT! The browns and pinks work so well with the red's.

I hope to start blogging regularly once again, I really do like it-it's just finding the time! Here's to hoping...right?!

Thanks for stopping by

What a Week!

Wow, last week was crazy busy. I feel like I haven't sat down for a minute. The week started with both myself and Patrick getting all sneezy and has continued with some serious sinus stuff. So between running to and from Walgreens to get more kleenex. Staying at work late for Membership meetings and looking at houses!

Yes, we spent Friday night researching some houses to look at and Saturday afternoon actually looking. Saturday was a BUST, we got home and figured there were no houses in ABQ that we liked enough to put an offer on. But, our awesome agent told us to get out on Sunday to look with her, boy am I glad we did! We put an offer in on the 3rd house we looked at. And, this morning I was so worried that we would get rejected or somebody would have gotten to the sellers before us. But, at noon today I got the call from our agent, the accepted the offer!!! Whooo!

So between Membership meetings, alergies like whoa, and buying a house I was left with little time to actually quilt. And when I began to try to finish up Henry's quilt, my machine just didn't want to have anything to do with that. So, I have to take it in to the shop when we get back from Omaha.

And now that we are purchasing a house, this blog just might have a little bit of everything in it!Hope you all stick around :) It's going to be fun, I am sure of it!

I love my Mondays

I love my Monday's off, I get to relax, quilt, clean, run whatever I want. All by my self! I spent my Monday basting Henry's quilt. This quilt is such a pleasure to to make, everything from cutting, laying out and sewing has been so much fun! I love this line of fabric : Little Golden Books-Poky Little Puppy.. I only shop from my two local quilt shops. One is more traditional and the other has such fun and festive fabrics it's hard to choose so I, of course, support both!

Here is Henry's quilt all basted and just waiting to be quilted! Can't wait to show you the results!

Why quilting you ask?

When Patrick and I first moved to ABQ, I didn't know anybody and didn't really have a hobby that showed a great end result. Sure, running has good results but I like many love to have a tangible result. I had been blessed enough to get a job about 2 weeks after settling in, and was super busy with learning a new job and would come home and think, I need something to do!

So, one day at work I was mindlessly googling and I came across some quilts that were not only colorful but modern! I started reading more and more about quilting and thought it sounded like fun.

Patrick's grandmother quilted the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. We keep a few on the quilt rack I made in 7th grade shop class. It is kinda funny looking at that quilt rack now thinking my personal quilts will be hanging on the quilt rack I made.

She passed away shortly before we moved to NM, and I thought that I would take up the hobby as kind of a nod to the wonderful woman she was, and I hope one day I will be at least a bit like her.

I was bored at work one day, so I began looking at Craigs List, perusing ad after ad until I found a machine that looked to be in pretty good condition, and it was only $50! I called and picked it up that night. It's nothing fancy, and really ticks me off most of the time it's an old metal singer 247 that weighs about 90lbs. But, it gets the job done.

I took some classes, at my local quilt shop. The owners were amazingly patient as I learned to know this machine and how to quilt with it (I don't think it was made for anything but just basic necessities, not a quilt) The feed dogs don't drop down so free motion quilting is out, the tension if not set right will break the thread, and when set right will still break the thread. But, I feel a connection to it. It's the first real friend I made in ABQ, so I guess I'll keep the beast.

Also, today I tried to make ham and beans, not a success. I don't know how my mom could make it taste somewhat good. Sorry Dad, it's still gross!

Here I am! I am super excited to start blogging about my quilting adventures, and some times those misadventures. I'm sure there will be other fun things involved like cooking attempts, my cat Marky-Mark and of course life in general! Hope you like it :)
