Scrappy Trips Around the World

I told myself that I was going to pass on making the Scrappy Trip quilt. In fact, I think I told myself 'NO' about 1,000 times and to just pass it up the quilt can be made anytime. But, after seeing all of the lovely quilts on Flickr,I couldn't pass making one myself. The quilt along was started Here, and I think I've visited about 1,000 times trying to talk myself into it, and then back out. But the process just seems too darn easy to pass up.

So I'm in! However, I haven't made a ton of quilts that have left scraps but I have collected a bunch of FQ's and yardage. Most of the yardage has come from my LQS annual garage sale (which is my favorite time to shop!)

After I got home from school today, I cut up some fabric into 2.6x16 inch strips. I gave myself an hour, to cut up as much as I could. I want to make this quilt last for the year, slowly chipping away at the quilt, adding more fabric as the year goes. I plan on making a few more quilts this year and hopefully that fabric can be added in too.

I'll keep you updated on my progress throughout the year! Hope you join along too!

Here's my progress thus far, I love polka-dots can you tell?

Bee White Black-January

I'm super excited to start my first quilting bee through Flickr. Actually, I've joined two but have only started to piece the first January block. This block was a little difficult for me. Usually I like to have a pattern to go off of. However, she wanted a block something like Gee's Bend Quilts with only straight lines, and I have never made something that abstract.

I started out by trying to plan out the block, 12.5x12.5 in my sketch pad, but in the end decided to just wing it. And I couldn't be happier with the results. I'll admit I was a bit scared to wing it but, I think that's the point of Gee's Bend Quilts, to have fun and to be abstract.

Happy Birthday, to ME!

Hey all,
My amazing husband took me out to California for my birthday weekend, so not too much got done in the sewing room over the weekend.

We headed out Thursday, for San Fransisco to visit an old friend. We had a blast, we wandered around down town San Fran, touring China Town. And even Britex Fabrics, I could have spent hours in that store, but for the sanity of my  husband only stayed on the 1st of the 4 floors!

We visited all of the major 'hot spots' and some hidden gems. It was by far my favorite birthday thus far, I have quite the guy :)
